  1. Hello can anyone help me with advice on batteries. What's the best battery to use when lamping with running dogs. I'm specifically interested in light batteries but they must also give a good use time. So can anyone tell me what is the best smallest battery. I'm currently looking at a deben tracer 14ah 12v. Any thoughts?
  2. Yeah that border. She's an excellent cover worker and sound as anything round birds of prey. She totally respects them despite being a very sagacious dog when in pursuit of mammal quarry. It's more her I'm worries about. Would a female hawk hurt her. in which case there's no way I'd use her and a spaniel would have to be procured.
  3. Hello. Has anyone got any experience of working a hawk along side a terrier. I'm aware that largely breeds like the spaniel are used and that it's a size issue. However if brought up alongside a border terrier would i be able to fly the hawk over it. (and use the border terrier to bush) or will the border be too small and the hawk view it as prey? Any advice or experiences gratefully accepted! Thanks.
  4. Thankyou very much. This has been very helpful.
  5. Hello. I wonder if anyone more experienced than me can tell me any distinct advantages of any would a male harris have over a female. I'm aware females are bigger and more powerful but there must be some advantage with a male or everyone would have females. Any comments or experiences very much appreciated. thankyou
  6. That sounds encouraging. Not sure what to think now. Loads of mixed advice coming on this one. My main concern is if it would be ok with the bird. That's paramount. I suppose it would have to be stockbroker to chickens etc so it wouldn't be bothered by the bird. What puts me off a pup is the profiteering done by breeders. No one should be charging north of three hundred pound for ANY dog!!!!!!!!!
  7. Wow thankyou to you all. In answer to your questionyes it would have to be steady to game. I take on board the opinion though that gunshy could be excuse for other issues. I could get a pup sure and I may yat. I just like the idea of giving a otherwise useless dog a second chance if you know what I mean. I too have a ridiculously gunshy lurcher. Runs miles to aa bang. Poor bugger. But she's great in all other areas. Thanks again everybody. Still open to thoughts on this.
  8. hello. I am currently toying with the idea of rehousing a gunshy spaniel. The purpose I intend to use the dog for is to bush out game for a Harris hawk. I have not got a particular dog in mind, rather the idea. So I'm interested to know if anyone has any experience of this or thoughts or ideas. The dog would not be required to retrieve or be around guns. Just work cover. As I am unfamiliar with the shooting world, I am unsure if people who own such dogs just get rid of them or if they can cure them and keep them? Any thoughts? Cheers.
  9. Thankyou very much everyone for the welcomes and to those who have helped me
