1. Anyone using 3/4 beddy 1/4 whippet or something similar? Wouldn't mind seeing a couple. Atb andrew.
2. [ Here's my pup, 14 month old, 25tts, sulukixwhippet X whippetxgrey coming on nicely just a bit keen at the moment but got all the makings of a cracking dog.
3. Way to many sets for me to get a terrier that would fit to ground, I'm wanting a bigger terrier breed with a bit of tenacity to make it want to enter the thick stuff. I'll see what the wheaten is like it wont be a stupid price and if it turns out like the parents it'll be worth the few extra quid, still open to suggestions... Thanks andrew.
4. He's always worked well for me and makes a great family dog as well, sometimes will hunt up in front to far but he's pretty good with the whistle so he's easy brought back. Any other terrier ideas? Don't want to rush into a wheaten but better the devil you know and what not. Thanks andrew.
5. Yeh I know what your getting at WM but I got the weim more for taking running/biking and family pet (mam and dad love the breed and I was living more at home when we decided to get a dog) he hunts like crazy and does everything and always puts a smile on my face, Don't believe all you read about weims they are bright as a button and keen as a bean... The dog is to come to work with me as I work away a lot I stop in a caravan near the forest (normally a farm) I get plenty opportunity for a mooch and ratting but not so much with the gun unless I go out with a friend on a weekend , the dog will m
6. Ah is that true? I'm not to clued up on them, non of my mates work them and very few even breed their dogs unless they are after pups themselves, basically all I can get from decent stock is the wheaten, was wanting something fast through tight bush like gauze and brambles ect (already got a weimaraner that will work everywhere else) Cheers for the replies, starting to rule the beddy out. Thanks Andrew.
7. Yeh I know a beddy will go to ground but very few actually do and even less are being bred for it! What would you suggest?
8. Morning people, looking for a terrier breed to work the thicker cover, I have the opportunity to get a wheaten from really good working lines and have seen the parents work they will fly into any cover/bush however I have been thinking of the jagd or beddlington terriers? (Kind of ruling out the jadg unless I can find a breeder for bore somewhere in Europe as they tend to be bigger and less chance of going to ground.. I don't really want to be pulling It out of every badger set I come near!! Which leads to my next question, as I don't know any beddlington breeders can anyone give me any inform
9. Honestly wouldn't if you and the dog don't know what your doing you could both end off in a pickle, if you need an earth checking get someone with the tool for the job..wouldn't used a screwdriver to bash a nail in would you? (Not saying she wouldn't do the job..just saying best off letting her stick to what she's known..) Thanks Andy.
10. That whole article is a joke but certainly didn't make me laugh! Lads doing the dig should have had a bit more savvy with all that is going on at the moment! Obvious the papers would jump all over this! Must have been a petting farm owner that they interviewed! Just want to think ourselves lucky they didn't interview some idiot in a hoody and trainers trying to rub his ego about how good his dogs are (nothing against hoodies and trainers just the arseholes that sometimes inhabit them) .. That will be next to portray everyone in an even worse light (tarred with the same brush and that) Don'
11. Depending who you know and where you are, finding a really decent pup from over here is even harder! And more costly in the long run/waste of effort... Not saying jadgs are any better, have to be just as careful either way...
12. Best of importing one, if your going to pay through the eyes for a pup (which you will) Get the best possible! Still trying to decide if I'm going to take the risk importing one myself.. So many things that could throw a spanner in the works, dog being to big/hard or just being numb altogether!
13. Think it comes down to a matter of standards, what one man thinks is a good dog another wouldn't waste his breath with, 800 euro per pup means less people will buy, less chance of the dog been bred just for money if the pups struggle to sell due to price...good and bad to that, less proper working dogs bred and more chance of losing this breed to the shows :/... Fingers crossed that the working lines that do get bred are from serious terrier men than won't breed just for the sake of it...
14. I hope they are all their cracked up to be I'll keep doing my research, I know some of the lads from aus like them because they have a decent nose...ATM there is a bit to much chance of a jadg being to big and keen for me to rush into getting one, hopefully someone on here works them often and can shed some light on how useful they could be in the uk or even someone breeding in the uk would have lines better suited for over here...
15. why people are scared to try something they know little about? its cost's a bomb and is definetly not guaranteed to work any better than what i have now no matter what you think! i work hard for my money and am not about to start throwing it about on the offchance of getting a decent dog! if you want to do that, you choice! i never have bought a terrier and doubt i ever will as i have mates with dogs that work hard and are tested all season, and have seen with my own eyes work! i have nothing against you trying something new, just i dont see the point if you have decent dogs about you already.
