I have to say I struggled to find videos on Youtube etc which covered some of the basic 'beginner stuff'. I just wanted to see things like how a bird reacts when first taken out of seclusion, what to expect when training to jump to the fist (so you can see the body language etc). I saw a cracking video on positive reinforcement but was chopped and shaped so not really true to how it would happen from start to finish. I think I watched a Jemima Parry-Jones vid from a beginners perspective but can't be sure it was her. Saw it at club when I first joined. I was going to video my own pr
  2. I was advised to get 'Understanding Birds of Prey' by Nick Fox. Has pretty much all you need to know! That combined with reading on the net will fill your head with allsorts of ideas, I think the BEST information I gained was a dairy of a young chap on here with his first harris hawk and it is an AWESOME read! Made my mind up in which direction I wanted to go and and some of the drawbacks involved. Give it a read! Also, scout about for local falconry clubs to get in with a crowd! Good luck
  3. Does anyone have this book that they might wanna sell at a reasonable price? Cheers
  4. I can only reiterate what others have said, I have been glued to this thread for ages! I am however wondering how you guys are getting on so will have to see if I can see any recent stuff from you! Hope you and Ruby are all doing well!
  5. Really interesting thread as this is how I was thinking of doing it (with the window etc) but didn't know if it would be viable due to the 'need' for a double door. Would be interested to see other people's set up too...
  6. Could have been worse, could have typed KFC chip!
  7. Hehe yep Malt you are right. I was thinking along the lines of when found it could be traced back to the owner. Alas tracking chips have not been designed yet
  8. Dayum so if it goes any further you are screwed! Hmmm think I will chip mine just in case!
  9. So do folk who have ferrets all have a tracking system if they do one? I'm a newb to this so I apologise if my questions seem dumb...
  10. Usually £10 to come to your home and do it (if there is more than one to be chipped). Am thinking of getting a couple of ferrets myself but wondered if there was a reason not to chip them.
  11. Just a thought... Do you guys have your Ferrets microchipped? I know that there is tracking equipment you use but I am just wondering if you microchip too? I am a qualified microchipper and have so far chipped 3 ferrets but only to pet homes,
  12. Just stumbled across this thread and those last few pics are freekin awesome!!! What camera did you take those with?
  13. Thanks... I also frequent Ilkley, is it hard to come by permissions up that way?
  14. Just thought I would say a quick hello... Joined the forum after reading posts for a few weeks and getting bugged that I can't see people's pics of their hawks Just starting in falconry and so thought I would start nosing about for info.... I have a lab that isnt trained in any working manner and feel he is going to waste as 'just a pet' as he is a clever lad! he's 2 and a half and is still a giddy kipper but think he would calm nicely with something to work his brain and body! If anyone would feels they have any ideas or would like to see if they can work with him, give me a s
