  1. I thought exactly the same mate. Normally the colder months there is a higher risk, but I think like any animal, the over heating had an effect on her hydration and over worked her body in that sense. She is free lofted with an indoor brick house, with a hatch that allows her to pass in or out. A setup she is very used to. It was the one thing that was puzzling me because there was somewhere she could go that would be cooler of a night. I will never know. I feed her every night before I get my head down when she is fully awake. I fed her the Thursday night. I left it to him for the Friday and
  2. I can see why a few of you dont understand why I left water or food. The bottem line being, my cousin is around my house 3-4 times a week. always got the owl on the fist. He held her more than me. She was my Mrs bird really. So when I asked him to feed her it didnt for one tiny second, cross my mind that he wouldnt do it. Simple as that. Also owls dont really drink like other animals. As stated by someone already on this post, they get moisture from their food. They dont really drink water. A real harsh lesson has been learnt. Another thing, my cousin isnt exactly young, hes definitely old eno
  3. I think ill be following in your footsteps Scotty. Not worth the grief when things go tits up!
  4. This is another thing that is grinding my gears. It took a text or phone call. if for some reason he couldnt come around, or changed his mind, the he could have text and I had a chance of asking someone. instead I was oblivious thinking she was being looked after!
  5. and he needs telling... Hes been told mate. And a lot more. Still very tempted to give him a slap but the voice of reason (The Mrs) keeps saying it will only make things a lot worse. At the moment I couldnt care less!!!
  6. Because he only had room for the one bird. My cousin has a little bit experience with my owl as well and he lives about 3 streets away and drives, so I wasnt expecting nothing than to come home to a healthy owl. The job was a doddle. Let himself in, food out of the fridge, feed the bird. He was just too lazy and selfish in the end to get up off his hole and do the 30 second trip.
  7. It's not his dogs fault mate, it's him that deserves the slap... Too right mate.!
  8. Harsh lesson learnt. I will especially going out of my way to make sure the job agreed, is being done!
  9. It knocked me sick to be honest. Ive never used her for flying or anything cos Barnys are a doddle and more of a house thing. The Mrs was very close to her and reared her from a ball of fluff. Luckily a friend looked after my dog and other bird! I text him as soon as she died with a picture of her dead on the kitchen side and said he wants to hope I calm down because I am on the verge of kicking his back gate off and putting one in his dogs head!
  10. Came home from a weekend away in Wales with the Mrs and my little girl. Before I left I asked my cousin to pop in Friday and Saturday to feed our Barn Owl. Sadly he didnt bother. We got home today and I went to check her asap to see everything was fine. I found her on the floor in her mews struggling to stand up. She looked too late for the vet so I got her on the kitchen side and got out 2 syringes. One for water and the other I used to try and feed her blitzed chicken from the blender. It was too late though, she couldnt swallow a thing and soon died. You can imagine how I felt. I partly bl
  11. You've pretty much nailed all of mine lol Ronnie Barkers stuff is top drawer. An you can never beat a bit of "HAROLD" Steptoe was brilliant!
  12. Spars a good shout. There isn't much online of the AKs, just similar to what you've said. If I ever get another, Ill have to come up your way and show you on Starlings. It's a different experience to the big bird hunting. I don't mind seeing people lure fly these birds but when they take them out catching worms, you have to ask yourself, what's the point lol I had to put the work in but it was well worth it seeing a supposed worm hunter hitting Starlings. Great fun!
  13. Welcome to the forum mate. Where in the WM area you from?
  14. I flew a little F. AK at Starling. That was great fun. Saw a youtube clip of someone doing it, so I had to get hold of one. They do make you work hard and especially with something as small as an AK dropping the weight was a steady careful process. Once I found that I moved onto lure flying using Starling wings. She soon got the bug for it. Such a fierce little thing. Great little hunter for me..!!
  15. This kind of thing doesn't surprise me. Men and Women join up in good intentions. What each and everyone don't realise is they're all cattle. Simple as that. Cameron spouts daily to keep the ones in service on side, im just surprised people are still signing up. Signing up to what. To stand and fight for a country that throws you on the scrap heap when you become worthless to there cause. Its written in black and white. The fella in the article isn't the first and won't be the last. People really need to wise up, stop reading the tabloids and watching reality crap tv and educate thereselves an
  16. I saw that this morning and chuckled to myself. There's always sommat that puts a smile on My face on their. Some right characters.!!
  17. very well put. I have to agree. Spot on. We need to box better and regroup here in the UK. As I said before, their beef is we are poking our nose on the take. If they're willing to fight back in the sly snydy way they have then we need our boys here dealing with it, not abroad lining the greedy pockets of men who feed on the people they're supposed to lead.
  18. They're like every group or party. Pros and cons to everything. If you look at what happened recently by those cowards in woolwich people were quick to say deport all Muslims. If we followed true to that approach then Jamie Bulgers killers are 10 year olds. So lets deport all 10 year olds. Ian Huntley was a caretaker, lets deport all caretakers. It's a tough subject that's not being dealt with. I am not condoning what happened recently in woolwich, because it was barbaric and ridiculous, but our soldiers are not in Afghanistan or Iraq for our benefit. They are their to boost a bank balan
  19. I take my hat off to peregrine trainers. They begin their flight so high. Id be bricking it with every session because they can easily move off course. Im sure a peregrine trainer would modestly say that great falconry and husbandry will do the job but me personally have to say that without extensive experience a person would be mental to attempt to hunt with them. Have you thought about getting a falcon mate?
  20. In mid air falcons pierce the neck vertebrae with the beak tooth. It happens in a split second so it looks as though the impact does the damage when really it's a calculated kill. Hawks are different and can be a little messier as they go for whatever chance available. I've seen Goshawks drag maggies to the ground from flight and do the job with force.
