  1. Is there such a thing anymore as a working bloodhound? I have a great tracking bitch (Bavarian mountain hound X Irish springer spaniel) and would like to breed her to a working (not show) bloodhound or bloodhound cross. I know in the 1980's and 90s there were working bloodhounds crossed with dumfriesshire foxhounds that resulted in superb dogs and resurrected many bloodhound lines that were dying out. Has the working bloodhound gone? Are there any hybrids still working that are part bloodhound? I'm in Ireland, so particularly interested in Irish packs. Thanks. Mark

Superb Pups Available. German Short-Haired Pointer x Bavarian Springer (Bavarian Mountain hound x Springer Spaniel. 2 Dogs, 3 Bitches. Entire litter. Pups are so even I’ll keep the last one left. 8 weeks old on 15th Nov, microchipped and vaccinated, ready to go to good homes. Pups are bursting with health and vitality with strong feet, great bone and conformation. 1 Black dog. 1 Chocolate Brown Dog. 1 Chocolate Brown bitch. 2 White and brown salt n pepper coloured bitches (Pointer colouring). Parents are from pure working lines, Dad (pure German short-haired Pointer) is a great gun dog (video available) and mum was purchased especially for tracking (people) and she’s an amazing tracking dog. She’s also a great hunter on Pheasant, quail and rabbits. She’s quick enough to take rabbits in the open. Her sire (Bavarian Mountain Hound) is tracking sika deer in the Sperrin mountains for a hunting outfit and her dam (Irish Springer Spaniel) is a great hunting bitch on a wide range of stuff. These pups are ideal for anyone who fancies doing tracking, SAR or scent work, as well as any kind of hunting. They’re equally suitable for someone just wanting a country companion for walking, cycling, running and hiking. I’m a dog behaviourist and trainer specialising in problem behaviour and also tracking. I’ve worked with dogs for over 30 years and these pups are as good as I’ve ever seen. I believe dogs from working lines that can do the job they were bred to do, also make the best pets and do not suffer from the health problems that are rampant in show breeding. I have no problem letting these pups go to pet homes provided they will be given exercise and well cared for. I’m the author of the book “The Dog Trainer’s Bible” and I’m happy to include a copy with each pup if wanted. The book covers obedience behaviours and shows you how to quickly deal with problems when they occur. All dogs become better companions through a little training. I rarely breed unless I want a dog for tracking myself and these pups are from 2 outstanding dogs that are clever, biddable and easily trained. The pups will be the same. They’ve had a trouble free rearing and the very best of food, care and attention. They have been well handled and are very friendly. Mum is a very good watchdog and will bark when anyone she doesn’t know is about. The pups look like they’ll have this trait also. They’ll be medium sized and have an athletic pointer build. If anyone is interested in tracking with their pup when older, I’d be happy to help in this regard. You won’t be running to the vet every other week with these pups. Their bloodlines are unrelated and they are extremely tough, healthy dogs. Both parents have zero health issues. They are short haired and have coats like silk. They can live inside or outside and will be excellent with children. Pups are in Co. Mayo. Ireland. Near Knock.

  4. I bred and trained greyhounds for many years and some of the best bred, choice pups that you'd bet your house on being champions, turn out to be useless with no pace and no brains. But, there's very few good dogs that come from bad breeding. The better the breeding for what you want, the better the chance. It's as simple as that. There's no guarantees.
  5. She's about 55 lbs and about 21" to the shoulder. My plan is to mate her to my working whippet as in my profile picture and keep a daughter and mate her to a full greyhound.
  6. As far as I'm aware Hancock's do not work their dogs, so that being the case, you don't know how far back in the pedigree you have to go to find the working lines. It's a no-brainer that pups from genuine working parents on both sides are more likely to be good workers themselves, but all dogs need to be taken out and given the chance to see stuff and develop whatever potential they may have. Ideally, pups will have an older more experienced dog to show them the ropes and what the owner requires, allied to a decent owner who has the patience, time and skill to train a dog and let him develop.
  7. where can the dvd be bought from? Anyone know details, price etc?
  8. He must've been a lot quicker than he looked. Fantastic dog that never gave up and how he anticipated the turning of the hare was amazing.
  9. no luck whatsoever. haven't managed to get a transporter who goes south of Biirmingham, bloody 200 miles away! There must be someone covering the south of England to Ireland
  10. any transporter able to pick up near Plymouth and deliver to Irish midlands?
  11. I was a greyhound breeder and trainer for many years and I can tell you that a bitch will usually run better and faster early on in her season. A racing bitch would often find 3-4 lengths and sometimes more within 10 days of coming in season. I would never have raced them once they reached the point when they'd stand for a dog, but many gambles were landed with bitches up to that point. Some race bitches have had a litter of pups and came back to racing, better and faster than ever before, once they'd rested and recovered sufficiently. Hard to justify, but I've seen it on a number of occa
