  1. Ooh, just read this...sounds good...I'll check it out. Homebase's own brand?
  2. I think that roundup is the way to go...how long do you all think before we can plant veg? We're going to get some good top soil to top up the beds afterwards.
  3. ....we did strimmed all the big nettles down, at the end of October when we bought the property...they were about 6' foot high. And very dense too.
  4. Oh a fire....we never thought about that. And would the fire kill all the roots too?
  5. Not sure about chickens being there before...maybe? There are four big raised beds, which are totally infested with nettles...the others aren't as bad. But the digging is a nightmare!
  6. .....ah, that makes sense now. I've been digging over the last few days and turning the soil over...those roots go down so deep. Will use roundup as soon as the shoots come through...is that right? Do I wait until some green shoots are up? We were going to put some hens on there, but then we were told hens wouldn't touch nettles. I suppose the roundup way is quicker too.
  7. Really interesting thread....some good points raised. Edit: nice photos too.
  8. Someone also said to pour on soapy water before spraying...is that true or just an old wives tale?
  9. ...these ones are horrible...big thick stems and they sting really hard! Would roundup and then a good dig about 2 weeks later do the trick, do you think?
