Selective breeding is much quicker than Mother Nature and without man we wouldn’t even have a terrier. It is the most unnatural thing for a dog to do, but through years of selective breeding by man we have a strain of dogs that wants to go to ground and work in total darkness often facing quarry larger than itself, that is some achievement and we definitely haven’t wrecked anything, just tailored them to our needs, even if the odds are against us.

Depends on the ground your working, a big dog will never dig on in some places, and those big dogs are of no use to lads in those areas. day off work ? hardly compares though does it. If your ill you can’t work, especially if it’s a taxing job. We are talking about animals here not machines, if you don’t have them in good health they won’t work hard forever. If my dog was to walk the first thing I would look at is myself, have I missed something that’s a bit off with the dog. I wouldn’t call a dog a jacker off one dig, dogs can have a bad day and if they aren’t fit or they’re sick when facing good quarry it wouldn’t bother me as long as they showed they still had it the rest of the season and it’s not a reoccurring thing.

Yeah Johnson is a toff and a fool at times but it’s typical anti conservatives to knock them down because they’re well to do rich kids, to be honest it doesn’t bother me because it’s not their fault they are and to be frank all the rest of them including labour are toffs, but he speaks a lot of truth, even if it’s deemed racist in the press it’s a view that a huge amount of the population share and he’s the only one with the balls to speak out.

I wouldn’t say it makes for a better dog as they’re gunna do what they’re gunna do regardless of when you start digging, it just saves you digging loads of holes ? last week we went out with the dog and realised the collar wasn’t charged. Rangey place but let him in anyway, had great craic finding by ear, doesn’t do any harm to keep the box off every so often.

I’ve never rewarded, as soon as I’ve broke through I remove the dog, his job is done and he should be keen to go again regardless if he’s had a shake of a carcass. Sure some lads do it differently and let the dogs rag a carcass but I don’t see the need, seen a few good dogs that wouldn’t bother with a dead fox.

Why does anyone give a damn what’s ac and what isn’t, anyone can tattoo an ear. If you’ve been in ac’s yard and picked a pup from a litter off his bitch you have an ac dog, other than that you have a black dog with ac blood in it. Mine isn’t ac and it works a treat, might tattoo his ear. ?

Yeah that’s right, I was given a dog after that and he didn’t amount to anything. Could’ve been the bitch with the issue I don’t know but It’s a shame because my father had great dogs with the border terrier.

Met him before at his place, seen the bob dog. Had a bitch and dog out of him. Bitch died from a clef palette deformation and the dog died from an issue with a valve in the heart, all before they where 4 month old. Gutted really.

I think lads are confusing low fox numbers with not finding them to ground. There’s loads of fox out there but they’re not going to ground because we haven’t had a winter, I’ve never known a milder drier winter than this year. No chance of dropping on one. But I know the place is over run with them.

Was gunna ask myself, it looks a familiar type, I’m from that part of the country and it’s very like the dogs I was brought up with, I’d say it’s the same stuff, white chest and socks, it’s beard will go ginger too ?.
