  1. ive got a 4 year old gsp that i pick up with hes very good and coming on very well . but in the last 6 months has started whining and its getting worse. its not just when we are waiting to pick up . movement in the house if he thinks were going out . sat in the truck when he can see me . driving me mad now any suggestion please would be greatly recieved
  2. im on my second gsp all good advice once you have one any other dog will never do. theyll work all day and love it . but you need to be strong with them they think that they know best . i used to beat with my first one hard for him as he wanted to work further out but he would work in the line like another beater. started picking up with him as he got older great for long retrieves. had my second for 4 years now only picked up with him and its a real pleasure to watch him work. 4 pickers up in our team 3 gsp's 1 lab. they are quality dogs love the family life, not sure about kenneling them out
  3. are birds are in forrestry land and all the larch has been cut will that will that good guard mix grow anywhere or will it need fertiliser. no planting due for a couple of years so could put some in
  4. does it work well used the powder last year and not sure. do you put it in all your feeders.
  5. its band everywhere but you are allowed to dock pups that are going to working homes find a country vet not a town one man . bit late now im sure but it is legal .
  6. you should be able to get some docked at least as long as you say they are going to working homes!!!!! mines not docked doesnt look too bad but its always bleeding when working in the rough. docked is best.
  7. had some sort of luck today managed to get hold of two people who have bred dpgs all but small ones. he did penatrate her today but only inside her for 10-15 seconds then came out squirting. after which the bitch wasnt having any of it. so no tie. both breeders believed it could be enough what do you think?
  8. i have been helping believe me . just cant seem to get him to hit the mark
  9. my dog is struggleing to mate. i have a gsp who is 4 fit healthy scored so all above bored. bitch came to him yesterday and stood for him straight away but he is all over the place. when he evantually found the right end and not her back leg went thriugh all the motions but unable to hit the mark have had plenty of ejaculations but cant get it in!!! met up twice more today same thing. he is as keen as mustard and she is standing all the time . please any advice would be appreciated. these pups would be beautiful and really want it to happen so i can have one cheers Paul
  10. yes that is true labs do seem to be easier to train but gsp's all the a way for me. i do think they are better dogs than labs ha ha
  11. im on my second gsp and mine going to stud tomorrow thats a very cheap price man for those pups be careful where they go. the bitch looks good. i work mine on a small pheasant shoot picking up mainly, they are amazing dogs. love to watch one working over a hawk.
  12. dont overlook a gsp they will do it all can be head strong and keepers dont like them very much but a really great dog . hard working when hunting good in cover not a spaniel but trust his judgement wont go in, probably nothing there . great for picking up ,cover lots of ground quickly and effectivly. all round great dogs on my second now wouldn't have anything else .
  13. i pick up on a small shoot 4000 ish and count shots always 3/4 shots to bird ratio every year. always try to ask guns how many birds hit so we know they are all picked up have learnt which guns are prone to exaggerate having spent ages looking for their birds ha
