  1. Had a Great day with pup amongst sheep and cattle. At first I kept dog on a length of rope and let it out to about 6 feet, walking around and through flock. Dog was calm and steady, showing interest in them but not pulling or lungeing. Tried this for about 30 min. Went to another field after this and did the same with 3 heiffers. Dog was still steady but more wary if they came too close for comfort and would come to me for reassurance. Then tried letting the rope out to about 10 yards. The pup still behaved itself though and would get within a couple of yrds from the cows but no closer. Re
  2. Thanks everyone for the advice. Plenty to go at there. Farmer will not be bothered with dog on first visit as is an ex work mate and is a good bloke. Will try all of above. Just wondering how long to put dog in pen with sheep or is it just a case of watching and see how long it may take. Newspaper sounds a good idea too. many thanks. let you know how it goes.
  3. I've just got permission on land with lots of sheep and cattle. A great opportunity, and the farmer has happily agreed to walk me round the land with my pup, who has not seen livestock before. Anyone out there got any tips or suggestions for breaking the pup to the sheep etc. would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Thanks for all the advice. I think I know which way I'll be going now.
  5. Can anyone recommend a decent scope for my (mint but old) HW80. It has 4 x 32 Tasco's on 2 piece mounts and stop blocks but is only useable in good light. I am convinced that the scopes move over time with these mounts too as I have to zero regularly. I have seen nikko sterling 3-9 x 40 ao's at £40 and 1 piece mounts around £20 and 3-9x42 airkings at £70. Anyone rate these? This is about my budget for now. Also - my old scopes have plain cross-hairs. Most of the stuff advertised is mil dot reticle. I've not used this type before - what are the advantages? Many thanks.
  6. My pups breeding has been recorded as far back as 7 generations. Sire 27" - smithfield & DH/GH origins, Welsh hillman collie 4 generations back, saluki 6 gens back & Irish red terrier Dam 25" - line bred many generations He's a good strong dog and not too heavily built and has made 27"
