  1. Thats really good shooting mate, specially the can at the end Never been much of a target shooter really, i dont even practice much, freezers full though
  2. A mate sent me some "bi-fold" leather, i think its the same stuff Gamekeeper John uses on the cattys he sells, its alright stuff, pretty thin/strong and dont stretch to bad, not sure where you get it from, but i know my mate paid £11 for a square meter, so cheap i rekon, ill try and find the source if youre interested?
  3. "most things we do are illegal but we do them regardless" If you cant see whats wrong with that mate i give up, your mate should have deleted his first post, posting ammunition for the opposition is just stupid and selfish, it affects everybody, i feel sorry for the younger lads theyve lost more than enough already. I wasnt calling your mate an anti, but i know you know that, i said he "sounded like an anti" and he does, nice play on words "if they do not agree with a comment" im having a go at his comment advising a young lad [probably] to do something illegal and openly for anyone to see,
  4. If you soak them like that mate they get saturated and can weep/sweat oil out for ages, could be alright with some harder type wood, but i wouldnt risk it I make the odd natural cattys, and walkingsticks, i use "Ronseal hardwood garden furniture oil" from B&Q about £10 for 500ml, sounds expensive but it goes a long way, it soaks in timber and leaves a bit of a sheen on the surface, i just coat cattys/sticks a couple of times, leave to dry overnight and give them a wipe with a dry cloth, dead easy and very weatherproof
  5. It was Marcus senior who christned it dub dub, he sells it under that name as catty elastic, the people who make it are Roylan, as far as i know? its ok laccy power wise, but some lads rekon it dont last that long?
  6. Its the bloke holding the catty that counts lol, not the catty, spending a fortune on a fancy frame isnt likely to make you a better shot imo? A lot of it is personal preference anyway, if there was some design that had a big advantage we would all be shooting it by now, one bloke will like something and another wont, 2 lads are saying they dont like Milbros, or cant get on with Milbros, and its the only catty im any good with?
  7. Steve, more or less mate, but not everyone agrees, you wont make heavy bands "work" with light ammo, makes most people shoot a bit erratic, causes handslap and the bands are louder, flats shooters tend to use lighter ammo and its ok even though the bands are powerful, or so im told, i dont use flats? I agree with Mickey, anything over 12mm would be called heavy, im using 1/2" 12.7mm. Mickey, Ive never tried thera green, ive heard its allright gear though, ive got thera red, my lad likes it, im not so keen, its powerful and seems to last ok, i just cant get on with it? Ill give y
  8. If you want tubes the Dankung 3060 or 4070 takes some beating, user friendly easy pull and it last well, the green dub dub is fairly strong laccy, with a strongish draw, not the easiest stuff if youre just starting IMO. You should try and match your ammo weight to the bands as well, heavy ammo and light bands or heavy bands and light ammo aint the way to go mate.
  9. Works been shite Steve,so ive had plenty of time to get out, my dogs help a lot mate I miss loads, thats the draw though, the challenge I do cast my own, ive got a mould off Sid On the pocket, and a couple of Lee moulds, just use the woodburner and a ladle, it works well enough.
  10. Sorry if i took that a bit wrong BPR, i get a bit defensive sometimes mate youre right about most square its crap these days,i cant find any non neoprene square thats any good, exept the red 6mm, neo's alright bar the odd twist, but i think £9 ish a meter is bollocks, 4070's last pretty well and its cheap enough, the game in me fridge is just as dead
  11. Im not worked up at all mate, just dont think it makes any sense, im leaving this, just draws more attention to it, lads got all the answers he needs anyway, it wants deleting.
  12. Just noticed Brassnecks post, you do double some tubes, but only the lighter ones, the 3060 or 4070 is powerful enough in single, the dub dub is the same stuff as Dankung 5080 more or less, pretty strong stuff, if i was just starting id buy some 3060 or 4070, its easy to draw and hold, you'll probably get better quicker with lighter stuff, most laccy will kill clean, its about hitting the heads/necks really, takes practice lots and lots of practice
  13. A mate uses dub dub and 10mm lead for pidgeons, but 14mm for rabbits/pheasants/squirrels, i think 10mm leads a bit light for accuracy with heavier type bands/tubes though, everbodys different mate, like i said im using 1/2" [12.7mm] at the moment, good allround size i rekon, and uses a fair bit less lead than 14mm or 16mm.
  14. Most of them taken with .457 11.6mm but some using .562 14.2mm, im using Dankung 4070 tubes and 1/2" leadballs now though, not keen on paying £9 a meter for neo square. BPR Youre not the first to say that im using a gun, anybodys welcome to look at the stuff ive got in the freezer now, just dints mate, no holes, ive had a lot of practice lol, i freeze the squirrels and swap them with a mate who keeps hawks for scrap lead, his lads a plumber, most ive had in one go is 4. i think i average 250-300 catty kills a year.
  15. Its not all shite, but a lot is, way to stiff/strong. The old square came in 2 sizes the smaller size was about 5mm in new money and it was good stuff, grew up using it and killed loads of gear with it, the bigger size was to strong, The last 2 lots of normal 6mm black ive had were crap, both from well known vendors, its composite shite not proper rubber. If you fancy square bands the only safe option now is neoprene square, 6mm or 7mm from Red Kite, or Bells of Hyth is alright, ive downed loads of gear with the R/K 7mm, and green 6mm, very good hunting laccy IMO, easy draw and snaps
