  1. Cheep it certainly isn’t?... need to exercise a little more discipline with my loading process I think?
  2. Work it was - they don’t give themselves up the sika but the effort paid off. Working in pairs is really effective in the forrest as if one of you can’t make out the target due to the trees the other generally could. Also they can take a bullet so the follow up is easier with two... not to mention the drag out! My last shot was a bit scary mind you... perfect head shot at 100m off the sticks bit when I can to eject the casing i realised how fortunate I really was! Great company, good teamwork and a very happy landowner.
  3. Handy having a set up like that to take them to? Proper job mate.
  4. Nice tidy job mate and dig looking great. Fair length barrel on your rifle mate, much weight to it?
  5. Really poor head for such an otherwise decent sized animal.
  6. Probably not the done thing but as diy effort I used one of those fumigation pellets used in poultry sheds. Smoke was pouring out from under the eves, tiles... everywhere. Needless to say it sorted not only the flies but every other living thing up there as well.
  7. A thumper Steve - bloody well done mate?. A kiwi mates red roar call was a coffee can with a wet shoe lace hanging from a hole in the bottom!
  8. A few hours while the wife is out with friends... mash, gravy, braised venison in the oven ... and heads. I’m going to be in sooo much trouble if she’s back early!
  9. Well worth the wait by the look of him. No trip is ever a waste - always something to either learn or appreciate.
  10. Jeeesssuuussss - that’s big. Got to be happy with him.
  11. Couldn’t be helped bud - The company will be appreciated in more ways than one next time!
  12. Two nice clean Carcass there - spot on.
  13. You need to get a web cam and live link going mate!
  14. 66kg is - biggun! This fella wasn’t very old and I think his best years were ahead of him but with a forestry grant in the offing its more about the numbers at the moment. I think the biggest I’ve had here was 58kg. Would like to see a pic of your stag when you have a chance ?.
  15. See what you mean - he’s next league. Very nice??
  16. What a beauty! I guess judging the quality of stock in an area comes with experience. The biggest (come to think of it only) fallow I’ve ever shot was the fella currently adorning my cutting room. Was a big deal for me at the time but not even fit for dog chews compared to that one!
  17. Good numbers about then. Hopefully their familiarity with people after the summer will make the start of the cull a little easier.. until they get too switched onto it.
  18. That’s awesome Rob - you’ve done both Rich’s buck and my cape justice there. Thanks very much for the pics
  19. It needs a good chill to get it cranking, mid October ordinarily but maybe with this high pressure and clear night sky’s the temperature will get down enough overnight a little earlier. I’ve never seen two stags fighting but shot plenty with damaged antlers so guess they must have a fair knock about.
  20. He was mate - I found the bullet just under the skin on the other side. Hardly any expansion at all. Absolute shite! I was very lucky to find him. I cut it out and it’s in my truck somewhere so if I find it I’ll put a pic up.
  21. After a spot of lunch with the landowner it was back out for an evening wait up at another permission which is hilly to say the least. The stags has been pretty rangy here as the grass is in such poor condition after the hot summer so I picked my spot, got comfy and waited for one to wander past. 7pm and a young staggie did just that keeping to a hill top headland of gorse above the field I was in. The sheep that were in my field were a total pain so the approach was tricky but eventually I got to within 120m of him and was relieved when he dropped on the spot at my shot. I got him
  22. On my tod down in Dorset this weekend to work on the cull at my new permission which surrounds the 12 acre patch I started with 10 years ago. I was in my old high seat at 6 to be ready for dawn. There has been some muted whistling first thing but it’s still a little early for the rut here. When it was light enough to see the reticule I decided on a quiet stroll alone the tracks and rides towards where the sound came from. After a few hundred yards I had the feeling I was being watched. Scanning with the bins I saw something that looked like two white antlers tips. Rubbing my eyes
  23. Wow - what a great job. Cracking head on that buck as well. Nice one Rich?
  24. Thank god - some activity in this section finally! Nice work Rich, that pricket looks like a fallows body with a roes head! Need to get out myself... it’s been too long!
