  1. While this is my time of the year for dog work & shooting I hope to get to this show this year. When I have been before there has always been a great atmosphere with lots of prizes.
  2. Thanks for the 'Mr ' title - it makes me sound rather grand! We are very happy to grant FIVE NATIONS TERRIER, LURCHER and WHIPPET QUALIFIERS for our 2018 40th RUBY Anniversary Events and we will donate a prize for each champion. This is a great little show - hopefully the weather will be kind.
  3. So far over 200 people have entered this competition - get your name into the hat and look out for future Xmas facebook competitions.
  4. The FIRST of THREE CHRISTMAS COMPETITIONS. The GREAT GAME FAIRS of IRELAND have joined up with EDINBURGH CLOTHING for a FACEBOOK competition to win a Percussion Rambouilette Gilet ; two tickets to our 40th Anniversary Fair at Shanes Castle ( 23rd & 24th June) and a year's subscription to Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine. The hard copy is in the shops now and the FREE to READ online copy is available at www.countrysportsandcountrylife.com). Edinburgh Clothing Percussion special offers are highlighted in the magazine and available at great prices from www.edinburghoutdoorwear.com To enter the competition simply go to our Facebook Page ( https://www.(!64.56:886/groups/172092726163876/) and like and share the competition post before COB 30th November
  5. We have granted Dessie Mackin FIVE NATIONS qualifiers for his Christmas Show. Thanks for all the other applications and keep them coming in. We will be making a decision soon on these when we have finalised our plans and prizes for our 40th ( Ruby) Anniversary Fairs .
  6. Thanks Margaret. With our 40th anniversary coming up in 2018 our team ( and I mean team - many of whom who have been with us for that whole period ) have got real enjoyment out of promoting countrysports over that period. When I say it is a team effort, many of the team work so hard in the background and largely without recognition to ensure we deliver our award winning events year after year. We have had many awards and plaudits come our way over the years where our events have been assessed as excellent by informed people and groups including the President of the ROI! That is why we are unconcerned at a few 'numerically challenged' individuals trying to 'rain on our parade' as we go into the largest year of celebrations for the GREAT GAME FAIRS of IRELAND. Some of the awards we have won along the way include : 2016 shortlisted in the TOP FIVE events of all kinds in Northern Ireland; special certificates issued for both fairs from Michael D Higgins, an award by the Taoiseach; several national and international tourism awards including a Marketing Excellence award ( the top award) from TourismNi etc, etc. All of these awards, plaudits etc were awarded through objective assessment by tourism and marketing professionals not people with a chip on their shoulder. Our 40th RUBY anniversary year is going to be one where were we really do celebrate the work of the men and women of our team ( sadly some no longer with us) and the proud history of our fairs and the contribution they have made to Irish rural life.
  7. Great job Margaret - its beginning to look like the calendar I have run for gundog tests in NI for several years - only bigger! We publish the gundog calendar in the Spring issue of the magazine and will also publish this for you. With over 100,000 readers per issue in the hard copy glossy and FREE to READ online issues the shows will reach a huge audience. The current magazine with SEVEN pages of terrier, whippet and lurcher news and 124 pages of countrysports news is in the shops now and also available FREE to READ online at www.countrysportsandcountrylife.com
  8. Yes Appleblossom some very special prizes are planned throughout our events and as you can guess with a RUBY theme for the major championships. And of course Shanes will feature the REAL ALL IRELAND RACING & SHOWING CHAMPIONSHIPS with a great 'pedigree' of over 30 years!
  9. As part of the celebrations for our 40th anniversary fairs and following consultation with competitors and sponsors we have made a couple of changes to our international and All Ireland events for 2018: Master Mc Grath Challenge for Elite Lurchers over and under 23" categories. Normal qualifying rules but special prizes to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland and the 150th Anniversary of 'The Masters' first Waterloo Cup Win. Mick the Miller Racing Challenge for Traditional Over and Under 23" Lurchers : To qualify for this neither parent must be a full greyhound whether registered or not. The dog must be lurcher x lurcher bred. The Five Nations Championships for Terriers, Lurchers and Whippets : Normal rules apply but special prizes. Show secretaries wishing to have qualifiers please email: Irishgamefair@btinternet.com As usual we will be staging the ANNUAL REAL ALL Ireland Racing and Show Championships at Shanes Castle - these are the longest running and most prestigious annual championships for over 30 years, AND NEW FOR 2018 to give a high profile event for Under 21" Lurchers and Whippets we have changed the format of the 'Directors' Challenge to give two high profile events with great prizes and a truly superb trophy to be won by the overall champion. The 40th RUBY Anniversary GAME FAIR Challenge for Under 21" Lurchers and Whippets : In the final all under 21" finalists will race to find the ALL IRELAND Champion Under 21" lurcher; all whippet finalists will race separately to find the ALL IRELAND Whippet Champion then the Lurcher and Whippet Champions will run off in a two dog final with the whippet getting a handicap advantage.
  10. No - theoretically they need one if travelling from Wales to the ROI - because of the ROI government trying to stop puppy farming. But Scotland to Ireland is UK to UK.
