  1. i have a PH 223, can you not adjust the set trigger? am sure i looked at it when i first had it? small little grub screw! i never use the "set trigger" as in the standard trigger is sweet as a nut for me..... plus on loading, i have had an issue once or twice, but i think it is me not pulling the bolt back far enough.......... only in the heat of the moment! Steyr223
  2. well done, nows the time to practise ur own sqeeking with the cubs about............. back of your hand and suck!!
  3. I lived in SA for ten years, where i bought my remmington .270 14 years ago, its now in the safe in the loft!! loud bang........ thats the last thing you are thinking about when you drop the buck, recoil- let the adrenalin sort that out. yes . when on the range you go home brusied, and you look daft in your earmuffs............... i used home loads and could clover three rounds at 100m............. after a while! Now, back here i am using my 223 for fox, so havent really used it on factory ammo. will do next year so best i get to the range and look daft my .270 trophy!
  4. thats going sum hey. must be nice having 3500 acres, we have about 1100 scattered about and seam to be over doing it a little. just trying to get some more
  5. Thanks for the advice, because shes not mine, i dont see her that much, i know what you mean about egg it on a bit, because she with a 60+ year old woman, she getts the walks but not the play fighting that she probably needs. my own dogs (when i had them) were play fighting from a pup, so they got stuck in early on............ but now u guys mention it it makes sense. i may bag a rabbit and drag it round a bit, get her playing. dont know anyone with other dogs, and shes timmed anyway....... the hunt of a rat maybe too much for her, u know tail between legs and circuling your feet. ch
  6. hey ezzy, i like the idea of the 1 miss and your out, it keeps your eye on the ball. my mate drives from oldham every weekend to go shooting, and it always seams to be me on the rifle and him lamping, so yes ............. like my miss spent youth on the pool table in the local pub! winner stays on! steyr
  7. dont know why you wrote this here.......... i didnt ask. i am sure there is a thread on the right and wrongs of "hunting" with guns, dogs, bow and arrow. best u look for that. i hope u enjoy your "hunting" as much as i enjoy my vermin control. Oh and what i call hunting, is taking my 270 to SA and tracking an animal for a few hours then releasing the lead and wacthing the animal "fall right where you shot it", theres nothing worse than having to call the dogs in to track it down, much preffer a clean quick kill. and then a few beers to cool down, while the tracker prepairs the
  8. i go lamping on foot when out on my own, can not be bothered trying to drive, hold lamp and gun out of a window, then the rabbit runs just to the left of the a pillar. so im looking for a series rag top and folding front window.......... sorted! until then lamping on foot is fine.......... unless you want the bag for the frezer. didnt you say its a golf course? should be fine for a car with right tyres. steyr

  10. right, i know i am going to be blasted to the rear end of this pole, but i am up to 17 this year and i bought my steyr 223 in septmeber at the midland game fair, so i still have a couple of months to go ............. so who's at the top? game keepers included but in a separate pole (u lucky buggers) as us poor gits have to work and do this as a hobbie. so 17 the start! (going by u turkey farm guys, i expect 3 figures) steyr
  11. my local gunsmiths said £90, for cutting and proofing, have you had it done? (proofed that is) steyr
  12. my inlaw has a 9 month jack russel type terrier, (her mother who is a jack russel had a fling on the beach) 1st trip out with her. she's a little timmed, wont dive through a hole in the fence or gate she sits there waiting ..... until i drag her through. 2nd, shot a rabbit, it squelled, she just looks at me! 3rd shot a fox cub, didnt kill it, put her in the hedge where it was, she had a sniff and came out............. dont want her to be a killer, as she plays with my little 3 year old, would like her to be like most jack russels, keen for the chase, and good on a rough shoot. any ad
  13. Mr Logic. No Need as i have called my FEO, he says what you said. (and my gun shop) that if your licence reads WITHOUT the phrase "land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police" then it is my responsibility for where i shoot. i.e "its an open licence" if it says "land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police" within the conditions of your certificate then you HAVE to get permission by them to shoot on the said land. end of story.............. for me anyway, thank you North Wales Firearms department. so i have an open ticket for my 22rf, 223, and 270 for ranges only (a
  14. Steyr, Are you happy that some bloke down the gunshop knows what your firearms department means by its conditions? Would it not be better to ask your FEO and get the full and complete information you need? My FAC states: "6. The 6.5x55mm Rifle and 6.5x55 Sound moderator and ammunition shall be used for deer/fox control and for zeroing on ranges, or land deemed suitable by the Chief Officer of Police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot" That is the position of West Mercia, why not ask what your police authorities position
  15. accutip @ 100m, a little low so thats been sorted, but at that grouping im happy!
  16. i have 3 guns on my fac, point 6 7 and 8 listed below 6 22rf.................. on any suitable land over which the holder of this certificate has permission to shoot with this class of firearm............ 7 the firearms and ammunition shall be used for target shooting on ranges suitable for the safe use of that class of firearm and with adequate finacial arrangements in place to meet any injury and damage claim. 8 223 basiclly the same as 22rf there is no mention of my 270, where can i use this? do you think point 7 relates to this? does this mean i need t

  18. after a hassle over the last few months, trying various rounds here with is my remmy accutip at 100m good closed group, yes inch low but just a quick click or 4 and its there
  19. started with 55g ppu, good grouping(1/2"), but then seamed to go poor (2 1/2"), now on accutip (1"), but have ordered 75g ppu as a reloader said a 1-9 twist likes a heavy round............ so will be trying in the next week or so.
  20. i was paying £21.50 a box, @ my local fd 300 metres away from me. have now found them 25 miles away at £16.50 only when i skin the rabbit i will take the p**s so i will be driving 25 miles even if its for one box
  21. I started with 55g ppu, good grouping. but now it seams to be all over, done the normal checks scope ect, the remmington accutip groups in the inch but would prefer the pricing of the PPU, i have just ordered 75g ppu to see if that comes back in. What have you decided on? Just remember 75graines are for "tight twisted barrels "........ I use 75grain PPU at long range "they are the dogs" the steyr has 1-9 so have been told thats what i need............... any advice welcome
  22. i have been around the block looking at lamps i had a tracer mini (£75) ok for rabbits but no good for fox, so with the down and upsides of that. was looking at the tracer max pro, £65 ish pounds with no charger or battery, (can use the minis charger and battery) but decided on clulight SL2/PKG £120 ish with filter............ why because it has a 1000 m beam (never) more like 500m (no filter) it has a ball joint scope mount, which is great. adjust the beam perfectly for the scope (which you cant with the tracer) comes with seperate handle so if there two of you it is hand he
