  1. Typicaly big cats lie on their back and rack out an oponates abdomian with its back legs spiling its guts on the ground.
  2. was a time when he was convinced terriers were usleless for catching and we have had some heated discussions And I sent him a couple of videos of the educational kind of terriers on rats haha. he has seen the error of his and we get on fine now. but he gets out and has a go making a living out of it and feeding his familly.
  3. Gouldians do not have down feathers as they come from northern Australia where its hot. Here in the sourhern states of australia we have managered to acclimatise them but housing where there are no draughts is important.
  4. I lost a couple of young birds was wondering why but you may have hit the nail on the head.
  5. We like our runners to hunt up their own so are usually off lead, however when the terriers are working a patch the runners are kept at heel ready to spring the trap.
  6. There is an old vid floating around that shows coyote dogs catching a mountain lion and streaching it out.
  7. first of all know exactly what you want it for not all lurcher is the same. for example here we want dogs that can hunt like a pointer, the speed to make quick catch while being robust enough not to be broked down all the time, enough bottle to take on teeth and tusk without being suicidal. now to find that pup that will fill that roll ofcause starting with parents that are doing the job is number 1. looking at the physical traits of the pups as to wether they match the parents.once at this point it is time to start watching temperment 1 is dont pick the sook if it can stand up for its self wi
  8. Depends what you expose them two at what age but hard work from 12 months on usually get their head in gear.
  9. I believe they are starting a new series.
  10. dogs are smarter than you might give them credit for.
  11. re in Aus its the country side they live in around the mountains and gorges hanging of cliff faces. Of cause their are thousands of the dam things living wild on the flat scrub land country. as far as dogging them their is no real sport in that unless you want to catch them live they are far more of a challange stalking them in the hills with a 22lr. did plenty of that when I was young those youngsters are sweet eating..
  12. The conditions you keep your dogs in has as much to do with flee control as anything else. if they can dig a hole in the dirt or sand and lay around in it expect a big flee problem, I keep mine on concrete and they get to lie around on the lawn in the sun when im home.
  13. BULLX GREYS, BULLYXSTAGS AND BULLYXWHIPPETS COMMON HERE IN aUSSIE AND ARE BASE OF MANY A PIGDOG LINE AS WELL AS DOUBLED UP ON THE SIGHTHOUND SIDE TO MAKE BETTER FOX DOGS. iVE GOT A LOT OF TIME FOR BULLY STAGS AND I AM LOOKING FOR ANOTHER BULLY STAG AT THE MOMENT.
  14. tried to get one of these a few years ago but old mate wanted far to many dollars for a x bred mutt.
  15. They can range from 24 at the shoulder to 28 inches tts they have a broad head and a stronger jaw than most dogs they are very smart but like most wild animals they tend not to just through themselves into every fight unless they thing they have the advantage theres not vet to clean up wounds they might sustane . A cousin of mine was running his pigs dogs and caught a good sow it squealed its head off which is like ringing the dinner bell. dingos came and attached the dogs they were bully stags and boxer cattles the dingos left minus a few of their numbers.
  16. He was a dairy farmer that ran beef cattle in the scrub country around the farm. his life was the cattle and his working dogs . when mustering cattle for the srub the dogs were expected to through the gullies to push the steers out this is where the dogs would get caught and bashed by the dingoes. as you can imagine it really turned them off going into the gullies to do their work.
  17. kelpies, collies and cattle x collies x kelpies tough dogs on cattle but the dingos would wait in the scrubby gullies and when the dogs went in to push out the cattle they would get grabbed by the dingos.
  18. funny enough we hit up two neighbors the first a cattle man said no I like foxes they keep the rabbits down. the second a sheep farmer said you can have a look but ive not long finished a baiting program laid 78 baits and only picked up 11 so dont think you will see much. we picked up 6 foxes in about 2.5 hrs that afternoon and were told come back anytime.
  19. Kill them the very least beat the crap out of them to a point they lost their nerve and wouldnt work again.
  20. I had my first ever encounter with Dingoes on my uncles farm in the Markwell valley outside buladelah ya plenty of scrub up that way. anyway I was walking along with my Golden retriever and my first ridgeback. heard a rustle behing us and spun around to see 3 dingoes/feral dogs going for my dogs no sooner had I raised my rifle and the disapeared as quick as they arivived dogs took after them but I called them back knowing what they do to my uncles working dogs when they get one.
  21. they cull around hawksnest every now and then because the numbers get up and they start taking pet dogs out of yards. but they have alos been shown to be some of the purest dingoes in the country.
  22. Any dog given enough time and generations will revert to natures phenotype. this makes it very difficult to tell dingo from feral dog here in Aus. its known that brindle is not a dingo colour but dingoes range from white to black and tan stature varies with terrian so thats not some thing than we can go by. ofcause DNA will give the answer but they have to be dead and thats not always justified.
  23. apart from you all being very set in your ways with Ibizan and pharoah would be very handy with all the rabbit hunting you all doing.
  24. some varites can be vey dominate about nest sights but many varieties get on just fine I have two Avairies on mixed birds canaries plus several varieties of finches and soft bills. they seem to do well. but mostly because i have dominate varieties in one avairy and more social birds in the other.
  25. I've had the same, Vet said some dogs have a small opening into their skull that allowes blood to the brain which means they over heat more readily especially after first time. I have found it helps to keep any excesive wait off and fit as possible.
