  1. This might help http://www.burrisoptics.com/mountchart1.html I have a set of high Burris Zee Rings on my Howa with a 4/16x50 mamba, only a couple of mil clearance. thanks Oxo, much appreciated!
  2. Hi all, I have almost made the decision to buy a Remington 700 CDL left handed in caliber .243 Just seen the rifle today, it's a beauty! Action is smooth, almost as smooth as a Tikka. The stock is nice, only its price is a killer but a negociation will take place. I have a scope Swaro 6-18X50 ready for the rifle and I need your help to get it mounted as low as possible. I found the correct base from Leupold QRW (ref 49841) but I than have no idea if I should choose the low, medium or high rings to fit with this pretty big scope. I don't want to have more than a couple of mm in bet
  3. This is private shooting in an open forest. 3 people rent the 500ha together and they shoot 4 times a year. They invite their friends and friends invite them in return... I have no idea of the cost to rent the forestry, sorry lads.
  4. I remember this smile as well... it is always present on my face like the first time each time and I hope it will always be Congratulations to your friend!
  5. I shot one few years ago in a driven shoot. We were only allowed to shoot bucks that particular day and I could see this doe running in my direction. Just before she jumped out of the forestry I saw small antlers and I then took the decision to shoot. Mine was not pregnant and I was told at that time that these doe usually are bad for reproduction. Apparently the person telling me this was wrong.
  6. I recommend Le Chameau model St Hubert (leather inside). I have had mine 4 seasons now with an intensive use in brambles and I never had leaks. In comparison a pair of Aigle doesn't last me more than one season, it is well worth the investment (should be around £120) and you can choose the size of calf and that makes them more confortable than any other.
  7. It is a top quality optic that you have here. You will still be shooting when some of your colleagues will be blind in the dark. The scope itself is worth about £300/£350 on a good second hand market if the glass is in mint condition.
  8. Well done Robsharpe... That's a great start for 2009. Haven't had the chance to go for the woodcocks this week-end but my friends went out on Friday and they flushed 56 of them . They came back with a superb bag of 12 birds, best day of the season so far. They were 5 guns, 3 beaters and about 5 dogs.
  9. I have just bought my 8,5X42 EL on ebay for $1400 in the US (delivered for EUR1070) but Remmy gave you a good advice with http://www.cliftoncameras.co.uk/Swarovski_...x42_Binoculars_ There price is correct and they are official resellers so the 30 years warantee will be covered. Same with http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/de...spx?sku=1002317 I first ordered from them but they are idiots so I cancelled my order. You would save few quids with them but make sure that you give your home address to be delivered because they refuse to deliver in the office. Finally I saved even more on
  10. Had a very heated debate with a shooter last night regarding stalking deer in the rep ireland... he saying you can shoot deer with a 22/50... I dont think so any good info to be had will be of great help.. looking forward to getting the 20 pounds bet of him Hi One Shot Paddy 22-250 is the minimum legal caliber for deer in the Republic of Ireland (check on board.ie) However it is recommended to shoot .243 and over and licences can not be granted if you apply with a 22-250 Don't take the bet PW
  11. Hi Louis It depends what birds we are talking about and where you go. Some times you just have to go the corner of the closest field to shoot 100 pigeons in 2 hours, a couple of month later you will shoot 2 pigeons in this same field in a full day. I am happy whathever the number. It is even more true if I go for woodcocks or snipes. If you want to be a good hunter, learn to limit yourself and don't shoot everything. A bird a bit too far deserves to live, not to be wounded. A bird a bit too near deserves to fly further before you take a shot... Shooting has nothing to do with numbers
  12. It is OK if it has been frozen fresh. No problem.
