  1. Hi, I bought a Remington 1187 when I first got my licence at 15, that was 14 years ago and it has never jammed once, bit of a heavy old beast compared to the modern synthetice ones though. A mate of mine shoots profesionally, and swears by his Bennelli, but most of my keepering mates use Berretta's and if I was to replace my Remmy I would go for one myself. The Escorts are cheap and nasty, my mate had one, and got sick of it breaking, so bought a second hand Berretta, no problems since. I don't know about having enough change for too many cartridges though, they have shot up in price recentl
  2. Great views Ditchshitter, nice place to be, but just think if you moved into town you could have a view of a brick wall and noise from next door coming through the walls.....You're a lucky man.
  3. I wonder if she thinks they are so great when one of them catches Wiels Disease ! Some people, it makes you wonder....
  4. Not meaning to highjack your post, but is there a way of stopping them holding on to the dead ones? The reason I am asking is a mate of mine has a patterdale bitch and she doesn't let go of the dead ones and misses the ones still running around, even if she's fresh and not tired I was wondering if letting her hunt with a couple more terriers would stop her hanging on? Maybe get jealous of what the others are catching, if you know what I mean. Any thoughts? Cheers Mike I reckon going out in a group will do little good, they tend to hang onto the rat they have even more when there ar
  5. I think it is the 10 and 11th of May, Selby is before that isn't it ? not sure if I am going to that though, I haven't seen ten quids worth of entertainment the last 2 years I have been ! I hope pickering is better this year as well !
  6. Just short of 30 sheep aborted, we were going around for days picking them up in the field. The Hunt managed to call the hounds back, and even offered to try and compensate us as best they could, we didn't make them as they are a small hunt, and it wasn't their fault anyway. Most anti's don't care for animals, they just want to cause trouble !
  7. I was going to put a reply in about the original topic, but nearly forgotten what it was after all that bitching. I remember now, we had the hunt on our land a couple of years back, a small hill farm, the hunt knew not to go on our lower fields with the sheep in and were sticking to the moorland, absolutely fine until a Transit van full of anti's pulled up on the road, one tw*t pulled out a horn, blew it fu**ing well and called the hounds through a field full of heavily in lamb sheep, (we lost around 40 lambs) not that they could give a sh*t, caring for animals, no way, paid students, probabl
  8. I reckon it would stick to brickwork because it is porous and able to absorb the paint, I suppose masonry paint is water based, like whitewash ?
  9. One dog did well too catch all those if it wouldn't even let go of the one it had killed ! Good sport though isn't it, we got just over 250 the other week with 6 dogs, and average over 100 every Sunday all winter, mostly out of game crops and around feeders, and not a smoker in sight !
  10. I agree, any water based paint will wash off in the rain in a relatively short time, which makes sense I suppose, if you can wash it off the brushes with water, the rain will wash it off. A good oil based gloss is best, if you need it to last.
  11. Those 'Skee boots' look like some sort of corrective footwear ! The cheapest Gore-tex boots I have come accross are the army Pro-boots, I got a pair on the bay for under £30, brand new, the only trouble I have with most comfertable Gore-tex boots is the sole are soft for digging, I like the old fell shepherds boots, I presume the same as the fell boots mentioned earlier, with the hard turned up toe, take a while to wear in, and a bit heavy, but last for years, and once they are worn in they are great.
  12. hi is bryan ferrys son the master of the foxhounds Missie got it I think, Marco PW..... Otis is MFH with the South Shropshire........only problem, he's a p##k. He's of the "don't you know who I am?!" type........bumped into him at a shooting ground, he was giving the staff in the shop hell because they wouldn't repair a rifle for him "ASAP"..... doubt he would be sat on the computer slagging you off I thought Otis was ok, before he was Master he was at the Middleton, Yorks, one of my local hunts, he was whipper in, and Knackers man, he came, shot and took away a bullock
  13. I agree, there are the few who openly support fieldsports, but the rest are too quiet, obviously trying not to upset the masses. I think Noel Edmonds goes out with his local hunt, Madonna only plays at it though, she shoots just down the road from me sometimes, I'm sure it is only because she likes the tweeds ! I think more ought to be said about fieldsports on the weekend racing programmes, I bet the vast majority of the betting folk who watch it know toss all about racings hunting origins.
  14. If you want to learn about old traps it is no use being misinformed, it is worth a flick through, as long as you don't take it all as Gospel. In my opinion until a better one is written, the best book on the subject by a long way is Rural Reflections, especially the new edition, I'm new to the forum, and maybe this has been said before, but that is my opinion.
  15. I collect traps, and it is ok for a flick through, but is a bit poor really, lots of mistakes, and all the mousetrap stuff is regurgitated from another well known book, I was disappointed with it when I got it.
