  1. You can give it a coat of resin after the glass application has hardened, it will help the matting to resist fibres being nail scrapped up and assist a little towards moisture resistant.
  2. what ones are they , I use 2 different remotes ex oriental and they work fine at 30 to near 40 mtrs . Terrain can cut the range down so I add 2 to 3 mtrs of lead from the reciever to the flapper and mount the receiver on a 30 cm peg closer to the hide .
  3. I use 2 to 3 meters of red and white hazard tape on bamboo cane's , it whips around nicely in a breeze.
  4. For all day use a 17 AH battery will do the job for a standard rotary, light weight rotary's can use a lesser AH battery .
  5. I have laid glassfibre on many roofs , ponds and all sorts of mouldings for over 40 years in the trade before retiring. I have not had or any of my associates had an expansion crack, not saying it cant happen but I never experienced it even on roofs I have done on southend sea front, including some roofs that were stoned/chipped for walking on .
  6. Not that hard to glassfibre it yourself , spent 40 years doing glassfibre work. quantity mix is easy with inexpensive measuring equipment and not as critical as surgery. A little practice on an easy part 1st. Materials from a local supplier or evilbay. If you are smooth concreting it out minimal lay is all thats needed and if you can use a paint roller on long handles you could save a respectable amount of dosh .
  7. The easiest to use and transport in my opinion are flocked shell decoys with spring sticks , un-complicated to use and transport and wont break the bank. Start with 10 or more , add real birds to the pattern as shot. Start with a horse shoe pattern or L shaped pattern with the open area being the kill zone. There are diagrams around on the net that will give you a better visual idea.
  8. A gun that fits you reasonably well is an important factor more than what style , as above second hand shotguns can be quite cheap but get someone with some shotgun knowledge to go with you if buying privately, more so if you do not know the important things to look for, from a gun shop you will get their rep and backup if something is not quite right. Side by side shotguns tend to be lighter than an over and under gun and many semi autos, the lighter the gun the more recoil especially if the gun is not a good fit can be uncomfortable and in a severe case painful to use. Myself after shooti
  9. I set mine within shooting range as pigeon have been known to "bomb" it , anything from 15 mtrs to 40 mtrs depending on the way the birds react. Move as you feel to the birds reaction to both rotary and pattern.
  10. Keep an eye out for birds on drill this time of year, if they can get seed rather than rape thats more than likely where they will be, good luck.
  11. Pigeon can get used to any scarer IMHO, the knack is they have to keep being moved every 2 to 3 days to stand any chance of working. I have seen pigeon feeding in numbers around a gas banger on rape , every time it went off they jumped a metre in the air and came back down and carried on feeding, Recently I decoyed an area where pigeon were feeding on rape, I set up 100 metres from a hawk scarer, I decoyed 1 bird the hawk 100 plus , I should have sat with the hawk.
  12. Thats good glad you got a result with no monies involved.
  13. Thats a lot of money the farmer wants for free pest control, if your putting down pens and feeders for game and paying for the sole shooting rights to that land then a fee could be acceptable, but if just for pigeon and vermin shooting as pest control I would say thanks but no thanks. My opinion is if your shooting pigeon and the likes of rabbits etc that damage and eat crops your both doing one another a favour , the farmer gets free pest control you get free shooting, well almost with cartridge cost's.
