  1. I just did a search on mesh sizes and it looks like most use a aroud a 2 1/2 inch mesh size or a bit less mesh size that is knot to knot with a 100% bagging. My netts are 210/12 and 89mm or 3 1/2 inch with 100% (50mts net to 25mts made up) bagging, 25 meshes deep. I do loose very small rabbits and occasionally a half size rabbit. But full grown rabbits get tangled up fairly well. Although I watch them and sometimes I think I am going to loose them for sure. This is day time work with ferrets and the net going all the way round a warren. The rabbits generally hit the nett flat out. I us
  2. Netriger Thanks for the info. Mike
  3. Question about long net weight. I am looking at buying some sheet netting. UK based descriptions are usually in ounces the suppliers where I live ususlly describe their weights in in say 210/12 or something simila this is in regard to ply. How does this compare to ounces. The net is multifiliament nylon. I use 210/12 now in 89 mm (3.5 inches) and its alright misses a few little rabbits sometimes. Was looking to go to 210/9 70mm (2.75 inches). Hope I am making sense. Thanks MIke
  4. I know of a couple in Auatralia who use long nets, I use them myself diy after I copied some I brought. Use on rabbits but have seen them used on hares. Mike
  5. I don't actually do the knot tying but buy sheet netting cut it into strips, run cord for the top and bottom, run slack net onto the cord for bagging, tie off at about 5 yard intervals and thats pretty well it. I need to improve my knots that anchor the nett to the cords because my nots come loose or slip a bit after use. I suppose you could call my netts preset without the pegs attached. To set these nets I walk out the pegs then trail the net out of a bucket and attack the top and bottom cords to the pegs as I bang them in. I was also looking for a bit of background on long net
  6. I have made a few netts of my own but they could be better. Is there a definative book for longnett making is it "Nett making for sport" I have seen this book mentioned. I am looking for "the" book of long netting if it exists. Much thankx MIke
  7. Made my first long net. Sort of copied someone's. What I used Ply 210/12 Mesh 3-1/2 inch Depth 100 meshes I cut the bale into four pieces long ways and ran a cord top and bottom (each piece that is) Out of a 50 mtr piece I got a 30 mtr (pace) piece of long net. I will get four of these if I don't join any together. Does this sound right eg. adequate baggin etc. I tried it out tonight ran it around a warren (had to use some other long net to get right round would have been 50 mtrs right around approx. The ferrets pushed a rabbit out and it got caught in my piece o
  8. This might seem a silly question but do you peg ferret nets over the burrow. That is have a peg on the ring or rings and push the peg into the ground. I think we used to do that over 40 years ago but I can't remember. I just brought some nets the other day 2 rings but no pegs. Getting ready to get some ferrets etc. Thanks Mike
  9. Length of peg for long nets Whats the length of peg I should be using for my long nets they will be wood. Rank beginner. Thanks Mike
  10. pegandgun Thanks for your help I tracked down some nets haven't used them yet. My little terrier is a bit young yet. But here is a question have you ever tried to smoke foxes out of a den I saw somewhere people were using two stroke motors to flush rats out. Also will a garden hose with the water turned on do the same thing. Thanks Mike
  11. Deben Locator Where is the best palce to buy a box and collar, price and ability to post out of the UK. Is it Arthur Carter I have seen that name mentioned a bit. Thanks Mike
  12. Can foxes be driven into nets with den dogs. That is out of the ground into something like nets that people use for ferriting rabbits. If so what are these nets called and can they be brought or do you make them yourself. I would mind making them if I knew what I was doing. I am having the odd situation where I could use this methord for fox control. Any help would be great. Thanks MIke
