  1. Thanks I'd no idea you were required to donate or even that you could. Who or what does the money go to and how is it used? Thanks to anyone who can answer this.
  2. Hi all Dumb question but what is a donator? Having been off line due to computor problems for a couple of months I went to place something in the wanted section and found I couldent. Please could an administrator answer this as assuming a donator means a person who posts on this forum then there might be a glitch since I posted this evening and still couldent put a post on the wanted section. Sorry to be a wally but need advice on this one.
  3. Hi all This post is a bit out of date but have been off the air for a while. After a long absence I did a seasons beating on a local shoot which culminated in two beaters days at the end of Jan'. Never been on one before and as most of my shooting is stalking and bunny bashing with the rim fire I was not sure if I should go. Anyway I rang my brother who runs a clay shoot and asked him to give me a private lesson in wing shooting. After a bit I was hitting 2 out of 3 clays not having done this since I was 18. As I'm now just 50 you can see why I was a bit unsure whether to have a go at
  4. Good question Tomy I use a Harris for zeroing but due to a dodgy back can't get down quickly and quietly enough when out stalking. I got a pair of Hazel sticks about 6 feet long, held them together butt ends up and then drilled through them with a 7mm wood drill about 9" from the top. I then joined them together with a leather 1/4" square thong. Result is a very usefull pair of stalking sticks which look totally natural, don't glint in the sun, sound natural if they knock together and are very quick to deploy when a deer is seen. Also, being tight. they cost me nothing to make!! Apart fr
  5. Hi all As you can see from my signature panel I have a CZ550 in 7 x 57. Not used it yet as it is the American type with no open sights and I am still saving my pennies for another S & B 8 X 56 scope. Question is, does anyone else on the forum have a 550 and have they tried adjusting the trigger? It comes with a push forward set and is suppoed to be adjustable on the standard trigger and also the set. My query is if you adjust the standard trigger does this automatically adjust or affect the set trigger. As usual with these things the instruction book is less than helpfull. An
  6. Hi .243 with 100grain Sako ammo for Munty and Roe 7 x 57 (.275 Rigby) with 140 grain Remmington ammo for Fallow and Reds 7 x57 with 160 grain for Boar. Funny thing is when I'm out with the 7 x 57 and shoot a Roe there is less meat damage than using the .243 Bye
  7. Yup I do indeed. Went through loads of info' before deciding and lots of people tried to put me off. I can't see it's to big for british deer since it's smaller than a .308 and many swear by this calibre. It is also a much sweeter shooting round than the .270 which tends to kick hard us lesser mortals. What finally swung it for me was hearing that several local stalkers had moved to the 7 x 57 as they found less meat damage than the faster .243. I must say I can only agree with this. They are even using it on muntys with good results. Certainly if your ground holds mixed species so you
  8. Hi I have to agree with your first reply. Anything other than fixed mag' is a bit of a waste of money since lots buy zoom scopes and then leave them set on x4 for example. I would rate the Shmidt and Bender 8 x 56 as a great low light scope. As most of us shoot either at dawn or at dusk this has got to be a priority. Most people can't tell the diff' between the German make or the same scope from Hungary. Likewise there is not much diff' between 25mm and 30mm body but on balance I would opt for the 30mm as it is supposed to let more light in. Finally, and this is just my preference, I a
  9. Hi all Further to the above post, the trigger kit arrived today from South Yorkshire Shooting supplies. As it has been a wet afternoon I thought I would get down to fitting it. First thing to say is have a look at the Eric Brooks site first as the diagrams which come with the kit have been copied to many times and are not that good. Also the Brooks site refers to the Fuzey Limer trigger article. This is also good for general info' and diagrams. Having read both and also the instructions that come with the kit I used a combination of all three and the job was reasonably simple. I used t
  10. Hi Daz Nope, not sure where to get a 10 shot metal mag' but I'd be interested if anybody else knows where? Been thinking of getting one myself. Perhaps a call to Edgar Brothers, the importers would get a result? Cheers
  11. Hi all Just in case anyone out there doubts the quality of the CZ452 read on. Just got one in .22LR and took it to the farm this afternoon for zeroing. Had fitted the scope the night before so once at the farm I lightly clamped the rifle in a work mate with plenty of padding, withdrew the bolt and having unscrewed the Parker hale mod' did a rough bore sight to a target about 25 yards away. Whilst keeping the rifle absolutely still I adjusted the turret windage and elevation screws to align the cross hairs with the target. Once done, bolt in and mod back on. This all took about 10 minut
  12. Trappa Check out www.britishwildboar.org.uk It's a really good site and shows distribution so far amongst a whole load of other good stuff.
  13. Hello all Just thought I'd say hello. Been shooting yonks, well since 14 anyway. I'm now pushing 50 and about a year into Stalking, a new venture for me. I'm a member of various other boards but this one caught my eye as looking particularly friendly and with a great vision statement!! What could be better than the aim of keeping us all shooting within the sport we all love-whichever branch of it that we are into. Anyway, thanks to the moderators and organisers for all the hard work in keeping things going. I was wondering in anyone would be interested in hearing how I got starte
