  1. Ok novice question here but... isn't there something about DoC's that causes hair loss (or some other problems) in ferrets? don't know where I heard but so thought I'd better ask...
  2. Your hard bunch... I'm really glad he's settled down now... :icon_eek:
  3. Well its been a couple of weeks now since I got Snowy... and snowy got fixed (desexed) and he is a completely different ferret!! He likes being handled (see photos) he's relaxed to be around... And he no longer tries to dominate every other animal he comes across... In fact he's a bit of a sook, so I'm a little worried that he may decide to cuddle up to the rabbits and have a sleep rather than chase them. My other Ferret, Penny has not given birth to her litter, she's had a false labor but she seems to still have her kits... So my friend is lending me a ferret that gets on with Snowy so h
  4. Ok here is interesting part of the story... Tonight I took him to a friends house (my ferret guru) he relaxed straight away he did his dominance thing with the other ferrets and animals (she lets them run loose in the living room.) and every now and then she'd discipline him when he was overly aggressive and then he'd curl up in her arms and power nap!!! :wallbash: :censored: but never even tried to bite her. He still attacked me and but none of the other ferrets did... I picked them up and played with them. It was fun... So I started thinking that maybe he doesn't like males??? His
  5. Hmmm... some interesting ideas... but the real part of my question was this disciplining him aggravates him to go harder at me our last battle was well over 20 min until I got so over it I just put him back in his hutch. I have no problem disciplining him or getting dominance... I just want to know at what point in the process it stops being a discipline thing and becomes abuse. Coz there is no quit in him (I can't wait to see him on a burrow!!)
  6. I finally got my ferrets a rescued pair... I currently have the Hob (Snowy) a 1 year old albino, who was desexed on friday and I got him back from the society on Sunday, I reckon he's currently suffering a bit of separation anxiety, because when I get him out of his cage for some play he frantically runs around looking for his Jill. (I think) The Jill (Snowys mate) is a pregnant sable renamed penny, and because I am a newbie at ferret keeping a member of the society is keeping a hold of her until she's done with the kits, I'll be involved but I'll leave all the drama to the more experience
  7. It looks great and would really last against the elements, Only one thought... would you have to line it with something the ferrets could grip... just thinking how bad tempered they'd be after slipping and sliding around inside the box, while you were transporting them.
  8. It's the collar that came with it... one is red the other is grey and the box is a 16' box... hope that helps
  9. 23.54mm(1") x 12 (inches to the foot) = 294.48mm =29.5cm close enough to 30cm (1') is my math ok???
  10. Now admittedly I was not raised on imperial measurements but I have a pretty good idea that 1' is roughly equal to 30 cm (give or take) so why is it that when I set the wheel to 1' it won't register the collar much further away than 20cm... and when set to 8' it registers to about 6'... My thinking is batteries, but I have fresh ones in there... any other thoughts??? (My stupid question for today - do they need to be tuned or calibrated in some way???) Cheers
  11. WOW!!! now that's a setup!!!! just one question what do you charge to clear the rabbits... approx figure... if it's not to rude a question???
  12. WOW!!! this question comes up so often it should be in the FAQ :search: if it's not there already :search: :search: But OK the short answer seems to be that it comes down to what your used to... They all work, it's just the nuts behind the box that have their own quirks Best pieces of advice I've gotten from this discussion is 1. If you get a MK3 put some tape over the speaker to quiet it down... 2. Practice with the box and collar so get used to it... 3. If your working in hedge rows think seriously about a loc8tor for above ground searching and use it in conjunction with the ferret
  13. Nope not good enough you'll just have to take a hit for the team and go out and try again... and take the camera this time. :db: Seriously thanks, it was a good read.
  14. You know that according to the more experienced (than I) members on this forum tell us the MK1 box will pickup the MK3 collars...
