in this case I would suggest to think of side solution, like in permaculture, finding a way to let the environment doing what you want to achieve, attracting other predators or might even be smelling plants, you have to study a local solution depending on your environment.

sure you can do, for sure some dogs have more instinct, however if you train your dog properly and you have good connection with your dog, you can achieve everything. I've seen lazy hunting dogs with lazy owners

The price is connected to the market and market is often connected to fashion, and very often it doesn't make any sense, especially for second hand objects.
