    Top up

Was hoping to get out early this morning, but snowed in. We’ve had about ten years worth of snow for Dorset in the last month. Checked the hoppers on Friday all being used and now can’t get out. Frustrating. Will get into the shed today and revamp a couple of old hoppers in prep for future use.
  2. Great work. Got the results for sticking at it. Well done.

Nice evening out, a couple of rabbits, pleasant sunset and a cracking looking permission. Nice one.
  4. Always found Uttings to offer good service, good delivery and communication is spot on. Have also used Cheshire Gun Room, they also were spot on for me.
  5. Eventually I got one of the magpies visiting the garden by putting out a squirrel I shot one morning as bait. Worked a treat. The other of the pair Mr Sparrowhawk duly obliged. Not quite as satisfying as doing it yourself, but job done.
  6. Nice work, loaded up my hoppers late yesterday and will be out for first light Sunday morning, looking forward to it.
  7. Been out at one of my hoppers this morning. Shot one after about forty minutes then had a wait of about a half an hour, number two arrives, bang down it goes. Great, good start. Then things go a bit quiet. Along comes Mr Pheasant for a free feed from the spilt maize on the ground. Always nice to see. Then I spotted a blob of russet, guess what? Mr Fox is sizing up our feathered friend. He leaps out runs a bit and realises there is a dead squirrel in front of him. Not going to say no to a free meal he does not have to chase, so he picks up squirrel number one turns around and clears off. Mr Phe
  8. Had three in fairly quick session then it dried up. Topped the feeder up and will return and check it later in the week. If the level is down I will shoot it again if not being used I will move onto another hopper which is being used. I use four hoppers moving one of them to a new site from time to time and hit them when the squirrels are feeding heavily.
  9. Using peanuts at the moment, pricey but draws them in. Then I switch to whole maize which is pretty cheap for a big sack from the farm supplies shop. Out for a few hours early tomorrow, should pick a few off.
  10. Follow the way of the Squirrel Hunter Channel, you will learn a lot and improve your results. I also use a trail cam to monitor when they visit the hopper. A handy hide 15-20 yards away, coffee, biscuits a good seat, patience and bingo job done. Big sacks of whole maize from local farm store pretty cheap and works well once the natural food sources run low.
  11. Great post, we can all learn from it. I have a couple of wonderful pcp airguns, .22 sub 12ft. But they don't feel the same as when I get the HW97 out, just feels so right. Thanks for you insight.
  12. Good result, got a couple of unwelcome black and whites visiting my garden. Am going to bait it over a few days with something suitable then it's up to the bedroom sit well back and hope for a shot.
  13. Thanks for the welcomes, just getting used to navigating the site. I hope to post some pics and contribute to topics.
  14. Newbie, so here goes. Sub 12 shooter with a bent for .22. Helping to control squirrels in the woodlands on the estate I work on is my thing. Look forward to learning from the collective brain and improving my results. Thanks for having me.
