  1. Dilly Thanks for posting that old photo..... it was taken at the end of a day's otterhunting with the B.C.O.H. on our annual trip to Pembroke and Carmarthen where we'd all take a week's holiday to hunt the P.C.O.H. waters. From left to right they are Chris, my cousin Bo (my original digging partner) and Bert (I was behind the camera), that old Mini Countryman (LEA 50P) covered some hunting miles in its time. Sadly Chris is the only person in that photo alive today and it's fair to say she's weathered a lot better than I have (but then she's had a pretty easy life). I said I thought i

  2. Thats it, the emotional roller coaster of successfully breeding a litter from start to finish has come to a halt. The pups have all left now and gone to working homes and I look forward to hearing about their progress. For me now though it’s all about the bitch I kept and the very reason I bred the litter, onwards and upwards.

  3. Hi Rabbit No that would be a different bitch..... I was fortunate enough to have had Judy from 8 weeks up until she died. If she had a vice at all, it was that on occasions she could be a little bit silly on a fox and mistakenly thought she was a match for them all. But with anything else she was very sensible and an absolute pleasure to take out. I had many good years of enjoyment with her, at a time when terrier locators were either none existent, or so "new fangled" and unreliable that they were still pretty much shunned. I guess to some extent this also tended to shape our e

  10. As is all too often the case, opinions are frequently trotted out on these forums as if they were fact. And whilst I’ve no desire to “pee on anyone’s parade”, or to speak ill of the dead, it’s important that when this happens those who have actual first-hand knowledge and are still fortunate enough to be able to still tell the tale, should at the very least attempt to put the record straight. Otherwise history will be rewritten…. and sadly in some instances rewritten very badly. I was fortunate enough to be a close friend of Bert’s from the early 1970’s up until his death in June 1995. Al

George found out as i was packing them away and has done nothing but go on about decoying and watching decoying videos on youtube. This morning we got out for an hour even though we had no net to make a hide, so i put one of my facemasks on him and he wanted to take the pup for the experience so off we headed. Set the decoys up and only had one come in but we enjoyed it anyway. now he wants to save his money up for decoying equipment. here he is wher

Took the pup up the Fields today for the first time I'm sick of walking the park's and along the canal she's only 14 weeks, she just had a nose around and checking out the new smells and doing the spaniels head in,the spaniel knocked 3 rabbits out in front of her and she Chased the 3 of them but lost her bottle after 10 or 15 feet and shyed off but not bad for her first sighting of rabbit's any other pup's I've brought on always ran the opposite way on there first couple of rabbit's so I was happy with that,I'm looking forward to the next few months getting some training in,her recall is spot o

  31. Just walk around with the ferrets this morning just enjoying our walk and the dog was a pleasure. He did every thing to perfection keeping in nice range checking on me where I was. Big forestry of young tree's so at times on my knees looking up the rows to catch a glimpse as he crossed over checking out bits of scent. There was scent about but in such a big block biit of a needle in a hay stack job I liked the way at one point he heard a magpie chatter and went off to check if charlie was sneaking about he seems to have sussed that one out. I keep showin

It is deplorable in activity when we have so much hassle with the (antis) and the pressure will get worse if we don't stand and do something within our powers, especially the one thing we have far in front of the animal lunatics, we actually know wh

It makes me appreciate what I get in the bag more instead of being a straight forward formality. Then there is the noise and smoke! To be honest, by the time I have reloaded critters are showing again! Not knocking other ways at all. U.

  42. You're a patient man. A lot of lads would bring their pup for the car ride and the hustle and bustle of a dig to educate them but when the pup wants to see some action a lot of lads just can't help themselves. Fair play.

  43. Its all swings and roundabouts, Collard doves spread from India and across Europe in the 30's and were unknown in the UK prior to the 50's now most think they were always here. Little Egrets are now common, cattle egrets, glossy Ibis and Cranes getting there and Bustards along with Spoonbills not far behind, seeing a Buzzard would have been a real red letter day as a kid and now hardly noted. Mind the pelican was a bit of a turn up.
