  1. Following on from another thread and regardless of how the dog met it's end (rip poppy) i just thought id put down a few things ive noticed over the years in the sand we have here, bright yellow to orange through to dark brown. The first and most important rule of all is to dig the hole as wide if not wider as it's deep ,forget straight sides in sand and keep the top back from where your working .I'd rather a come shape in sand any day as long is the bottom is wide enough to work in . We never stand over the dog to dig when nearing the mark ,dig from either side where possible .

  7. I've moved millions of tons of sand literally.using a 40 ton dozer and digger.in a quarry.there's 6ft seems of it pure sand but compacted solid only a few ft from the surface.ive dug under a 60ft face using a digger to collapse the face to stop sand Martin's digging in.as they won't nest in anything that ain't a straight face.and have dug in maybe 10ft and the face didn't move an inch.although it had 1000s of tons of weight above it.people maybe think of sand as what you see on the beach ie sand dunes.but it can vary a lot as lads on here know.

My grandson's mum had phoned me saying could I sort out a problem he was having at school. She's recovering from an operation and his dad is working abroad at the minute. Had a word with the lad, he's 14, 6 feet two inches and lucky if he's ten stone. (He's growing like bamboo.) He's also got red hair. He doesn't like being that height and he doesn't like having red hair. He's never been in trouble at school before and he's in all the top sets. Anyway his maths teacher (his favourite subject) was doing some warm up work before the

  16. I fully understand what you are saying plucky on the experience front I don't have much as for the fell and more land in my area there are only 6 members and all except 1 are green including me so no advice given there and if entering s dog who had 4 previous digs into a spot which is 1.3 is a bad thing then I suppose I'm guilty as charged but let's face it that ain't deep . And yes I've found a professional terrier man in hunt service who is willing to take me when ever I want and he will accompany me to my permissions

  17. R.I.P Poppy, Lee I feel sorry for your loss but you're still as green as the day you first started posting on here and this will not be the end of your disasters, you have been trying to run too fast before you can walk again, you can get as many tattoos as you like on yourself of wildlife and dead terriers but the experienced terrier men on here can see through your posts like glass, I applauded that you got involved running the fell and moorland in your area but that just shows how desperate the terrier job has become, how can a man with no direct experience of digging give advice to lads t

  20. Being a busy few days. me and a mate went out friday and had two digs and a bolt. first place we dug my hairy dog in a big rangy place that can run up to 10ft we ended up digging him at just over 6ft and he never put a foot wrong. second place we tried was with my first season dog. this place was a big step up from any place he was ever in before rangy but only runs to around 4/5 ft. let him of the lead and he skips past one or 2 holes and in. got a mark of 3.8ft dug down to him and he wedged in tight with 2 infront of him. then on to the next place another big rangy place but only shallow. dr

  21. How the industry and greater sport adapts to this problem will be a large factor in it's future survival! If the consumer continues to demand big days with harvesting the meat of secondary or no concern then eventually it'll be banned. Regardless of it's contribution to GDP! Last year a local estate put on two big days that broke the estate record. The biggest topped 2300 head! That's a sold day, not keepers day.... It's f***ing mad and unless we start self regulating and the consumer putting greater value of what they're harvesting the industry and possibly the sport will be history

  26. Such a shame - Almost seems to be an annual event that I start thinking I have the rabbits a good seeing to only to find I’m a few weeks too late and mixi has done it for me. Lucky enough to back onto permission of open fields behind my house, got this fella a couple of days ago with the HW100 with the early signs of it. one thing I’d always say about rabbits is don’t go too easy on them thinking you’ll preserve sport for another day. Either you’ll get them, someone else will... or mixi will come and do your job for you!

  27. Well, if that's how you feel try this one on for size. Some years ago two men we call Chief and Billy were out guiding another man on a bobcat hunt. There were three dogs with that day. They were Pounder (Treeing Walker), Magggie (TW) and Pepper (Mtn. Cur). Pounder is the start dog, meaning that he is put on an old track and expected to work it up and get the cat jumped. Maggie was nearly as good on track and Pepper was better than both on a jumped race but not quite as good on working cold tracks. Pounder and Maggie are also bear dogs, while Pepper is a bobcat and coon dog. Anyhow

And just maybe you shouldn't be lile, poor leethedog but instead poor MUCKING POPPY! Tell this guy like it is instead of babying him so he actually learns from his mistake instead of telling him it's ok..amd I don't care if any of you post to my comments again I'm not gonna respond and keep it going.
