Hi,

I was given a two and a half year old bitch last August.Banned from the track for barging.According to the trainer I got her from she had not been given any hormone treatment to hault seasons.Having had her just two weeks she had a quite normal season.Since then nothing.I am used to having lurchers ,and them coming into season every six months like clockwork. This bitch is so easy to live with, and has taken to work very easily.Any thoughts appreciated.Cheers Jon

She might not come back into heat till next August, a lot are yearly or even more.
Saying that, if another bitch close to her comes into heat, this might, trigger her off.

She was kennelled, then the kennels were invaded by red ants!she has been in the house for two months,no trouble at all.my deer/grey/whip has had two seasons since the grey arrived that didnt bring her in either.

Greyhound bitches as with lurchers or salukis, collies or whatever have different cycles, some are 6 monthly some 9 some 12. even without suppressing them its been known for them not to break for over 2 years. imo idealy a 12 month cycle is best . and with the greyhounds we give ours a seasonal rest of 2-3 monts.

i used to have one that was 11monthly?

I remember reading that the cycle of bitches seasons depends on the distant heritage, they reckon dogs are descended from two wild canid's the eurasian wolf and the golden jackal , one being six monthly and the other being yearly........greyhounds and some spaniel breed's carry a lot of golden jackal genetics apparently

its what i read once anyway, make of that what you will!

i read this in a book once that it depends on the size of the dog ie terriers being 6 monthish and big dogs ie greyhounds come into season like upto 7 years
