i got pulled by the police when i was 16 for driveing my bike on a road and got 9 points as a result, i dident have a licence at the time.
if they take 3 years to come off? does that start from the date i got them or the date i get my licence, then 3 years from then?
hope this makes sence many thanks

How old are you now? In the first 2 years of drving you only get 6 lives to play with so the 9 points will take you over right away lol. Hardly worth bothering to pass your test really :D It may work differently when you are issued points before you have the licesnse but that's my understanding.

As far as I remember, if the points are accrued before you pass (i.e. are issued onto your provisional) you still get a full licence when you pass your test, but one more point after that will revert you back to learner status as per the New Drivers Act.

You get your points as soon as the courts issue you them, then you send your licence off to the DVLA, or have them written on your licence in court, after 3 years they run out, but I think its five years before they vanish for good :)

[points are put on your licence and dated to the day of the offence .. they remain on your licence for 4 years before they can be removed but are no longer in effect after 3 years .. so between 3 and 4 years they are not used in a totting up procedure if you got more ;) .....

doesnt work like that if you get 6 points before you get your license you can get another 6 points while youve got your license before you get banned because in the first 2 years of driving if you get 6 points you get banned but if you had 6 points then got your license then got another 6 you would have 12 if you get what i mean, i know because i got 6 when i was 16 for driving a motorbike without any license and the rest so i looked into it and was told this is the way it works by a traffic cop but they start the day the court issues them to you not when you get your license, if youve got 9 youve only got 3 to play with so be carefull lol.

Did you try appealing the decision? My mate had pretty much the same thing, wrote a letter, went in and grovelled a bit promised to do pass plus etc and got it reversed. always worth a try!
p.s whereabouts in perthshire are you I've got a fair few shoots around perth?

IN your case it'll be 3 years from the date your licence is issued NOT 3 years from date of conviction
