I had a Jenny on my finger once, but that's getting a bit off subject.

Hi mate, there is a big difference between birds that have just fledged and those who will genuinely die if they were left to do so. I have even taken in house martins that have fledged and been water logged after days of unforgiving rain. Its really not that hard once you know what you are doing. The list of birds i have reared is quite extensive but by no means exhaustive. I guess the biggest challenge would be to handrear gold crests, but i don't suppose that will ever happen.

Getting the birds to feed themselves was always the hard part, some being worse than others, but the satisfaction was a great feeling to know you have triumphed. If the young birds are not"educated" to feed for themselves they would just sit there are die rather than pick something up in their beak and swallow it! It really has got to be seen to be believed!

had one or two myself jd.......not as many as you though

the most memorable being a jackdaw...........he was still tame 12 months after his release he would swoop down and land on my shoulder , even when i was out walking the dog !!!!!!!

the bugger used to terrorise the local kids sometimes as well......dive bombing them for crisps etc.

i have some pics on film somwhere i'll dig em out and scan 'em.

excellent pic

cheers
