a few times when ive been on my permission, ive seen these black birds about the size of a small duck, with red beaks but non-webbed feet?
i didnt think to shoot one because i didnt know what they where :laugh:
any suggestions?

Sounds like a Coot or a Moorhen, they can be shot between 1st Sept and 1st Jan iirc

Both can be eaten but the skin makes them a bit bitter so better skinned before cooking (which is just as well as a nightmare to pluck)

That is a moorhen, coots are bigger and have white beaks, both can be shot (in season) never eaten them though.
