Fallow Rut

Hi, last year i watched the fallow rut in some local woods. I went to these woods yesterday expecting to witness a stag or two thrashing the ground or trees, bellowing or what ever they call it ( That noise they make), or even them fighting. Unfortunately i didn't see any of this and after spending 4 hours up there sneaking about i only found a coupleof saplings where a stag had stripped the bar with his antlers. I was just wondering when exactly it is they rut and wether they have started where any of you are??

sounds about right... follow the tracks around to see where they go, bare in mind by looking your scent can 'detour them' the next time they come.
one tip is feel the droppings, if theyre warm you just missed or spooked them..bare in mind deseises when handling the turds though lol.
next is look where your going, there could be a poacher's trap there... ermmm bet that hurts lol.

edit..oops forgot to say, round the rut times dont be to bold...they travel 80km's or was it miles... a day, if you piss one off they dont stop butting and tramping till they're tired...in a about 40 miles worth time lol... so keep an eye on a tree to get up, just clamp on like a quola bear and shin hitch up.. the fear will do the rest lolol....... head it i'm serious!
