Any idea's what this is ? Fungus stuff

I saw this on top a of chewed tree stump i have no idea what it is , does anyone know ? the tree stump looks like the squirells have had a go at it as there in plague proportions up there the dam things are stripping the trees of bark

Hard to tell as its old, and covered in mold (or its own Mycelium) but looks a bit like old, edible but I wouldn't eat that one, chicken of the woods.
Check the stump again after a bit more rain, and see if there's any new healthier specimens to id.

My husband said chicken of the woods, but we looked it up & as you say it could be , but old stuff, i will have another look tomorrow & see if i cant spot any new spores developing

there was a tree by it with a normal looking mushroom / toadstool on it, not sure if its one of them

Look for small yellow pins (new forming mushrooms, pins
not spores, you'll never see spore, just mycelium, the white
fibrous mat, and pins, then fruits) then if it stays wet, let them
grow, as if can reach a good size. Well worth a try if you get a 100% positive id on them.

Right i will check it out a few times a week & post any pics of the development of new growth , might make a nice project in pictures over the coming weeks :thumbs:
