Howdie all you wise peole, i have come to pick your brains :D

In the not so distant future, i shall be in the position of upgrading my little corsa for something that i can actualy take off road (without ripping all the trim off :( ) I was just woundering how many people own a SWB v6 shogun, and what peoples opinions of them are, any common faults, mpg ect ect.

all the best

Not sure about the SWB but, i used to do a bit of off roading with my friend in a LWB auto, hardly the first choice, but it did alot better than some of the other makes like land rovers and suzukis...just because they couldnt control it.

We rolled it last week....not that the car has a tendantcy to do so, but Youth + Off-road = well you can only guess.

they have replaced it with anothe Paj but a manual this time so that can only be of credit to them

Shoguns are like most Jap kit, sturdy, reliable and ok off road but parts are expensive. Ive just bought 4 new discs, four sets of pads, four sets of retaining pins and anti squeal shims for my R.R. V8 LSE. The lot cost £70 including VAT from Paddock Motors, Matlock. The same items for a Jap 4x4 would be at least double.
It's easy to criticise Land Rover/Range Rover but never forget that every 4x4 made since they were introduced, from Merc/BMW down to Dihatsu and the like, copied the mechanics/drive and suspension from Land Rover. Regards and Best wishes. J.H.S.

I like the look of the old defenders but they are stupid money at the moment, and i think that a discovery will be a bit to large for what i need, i mean i go round the farm in it, but the rest of the time its too and from work, with the odd long trip to bisley which is where i thought maybe a short wheelbase shogun would be ideal for.

Maybe i should re-think to a landy (and i suppose the advantage of a landy is loads of aftermarket gear made for them)
