Starlings How to stop them

Any body have ideas about how to stop starlings eating my chicken feed .

They can be shot with an air rifle in ireland according to BASC or if its only a small pen you could cover the top with garden netting.

Two old CDs , glue them together shiny side out. Hang them up , good bird deterrent.

Have shot about 16 off them at the minute they just keep coming back with there friends . I have used a bag of layers pellets in 4 days and i have only got 7 chickens . Cant keep watch much through the day as i have to work . A man told me to use a hawk decoy but the starlings are sitting on the pole that the hawk is fixed too £30.00 down the drain .

would stringing up a few dead ones be off any use like a gamekeepers giblit line

Jack boy know what you mean but it hard to know how much to give them the starlings are there from morning right through the day . they eat even if a chicken is eating at the feeder


gonna try the CD idea and a few starlings hanging from a rope

cheaper to get shot of hens and buy a few organic eggs.

Build a small ladder trap and bait it up, that should cure them. ;)

I agree use a spring feeder, no point having an open food sorce for all vermin. Although rats will still get to food at night unless you remember to cover spring, I use an old tin and tie it on at night.
