I have read that a track greyhound can REACH a speed of UP TO 40mph,but talking to a bloke the other day he reckons UP TO 60mph(irish bred dogs),can anyone help. With this in mind i have a working 3/4greyhound 1/4 deerhound 29ins TTS 32kg(70llb),i wondered what speed he may reach.i realise this depends on what ground and quarry, any comments welcome.

DONT THINK ANY BREED OF DOG COULD REACH THE 60MPH MARK,GREYHOUND 40MPH ?MAY BE HAD A LURCHER THAT WOULD HOLD HIS OWN TO GREYHOUNDS UP THE STRAIGHT, HELD THE LAP RECORD ON A LOCAL FLAPPING TRCK AND ONLY LOST 2 RACES IN HIS CAREER , WON MANY UP AND DOWN THE COUNTRY, ,JUST BECAUSE HE IS A BIG DOG DOES NOT MEAN HE WILL BE FAST,

Nice post! You hit the nail on the head. I believe that the fastest ever recorded hit right around the 48 mph mark but I cant remember when or where or why I read this but I thought at the time that the source was extremely accurate. I tried to find this on the web somewhere but cannot find it. I remember when I was in my early teens the fastest ever recorded by lazer I believe somehow was 44 mph but I am sure this new technology is more accurate. I'll bet some of them good desert bred saluki cross type dogs can reach speeds close to 40 mph but damn man they can hold it for like 5 minutes which is fargin amazing to me.

I believe that the record was recorded in Australia in '04 or some shit like that.

I also remember reading a record where a Saluki type was recorded at holding over a 35 mph average for over mile but I'll bet anything that was not one of these ultra fast type jack rabbit type dogs.

In the end, does it all really matter how fast the bike is in the quarter mile, or even top speed?

At the speeds modern bikes achieve, most car owners can only dream of this type of acceleration and top end speed.

It was terrible, the jack rabbits were slow and the dogs were slower.
